ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Periyar University's sports and games are comprehensive programmes that incorporate many activities during an academic year. Activities available to students encompass indoor and outdoor sports such as Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Cricket, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Yoga and many other worthwhile recreational choices. At Periyar University, we encourage our students to become fully involved in the Sports Programme in order to take advantage of the opportunities being offered.

The eclectic mix of activities gives Periyar University a vibrant atmosphere and gives the students the opportunity to become risk takers, make lasting friendships and develop skills and passions beyond the academic timetable.

VISION

Department of Health Physical Education provides academic programs in health, physical education, outdoor recreation and pre-physical therapy. Our vision for the future includes adding a minor in heath/wellness promotion, continuing to grow our outdoor adventure and leadership.

MISSION

In keeping with the University's mission, the Department of Physical Education focused on the development of the whole student: physical, mental, and intellectual. Programs within the department are interdisciplinary by nature and combine the fields of education and social sciences. The department is dedicated to providing a high quality Physical education and career preparation with the idea of excellent teaching being the central to our mission. We teach in a variety of settings, sports arenas, fitness centers, community/public health organizations, physical therapy clinics, and outdoor recreation endeavors.
