ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Computer Science in the Periyar University PG Extension Centre came into existence in the year 2012. Computer science deals with the fundamental theory (hardware and software) and performs innovative algorithms, from specific mathematical processes and procedures to the computer systems deployed by major tech companies. We are a growing post-graduate department, with the aim of imparting quality education, theoretical as well as practical, in the respective field to rural communities. The department offers MPhil and PhD programme in Computer Science that aspire to provide research scholars with needed multi-skills and competencies to develop novel algorithms, formulate new systems and theories that empower people, and advance the science of computing.

| M.Sc (Computer Science) | A candidate who has passed B.Sc. Computer Science/B.C.A/B.Sc. Computer Technology/B.Sc. Information Science/Technology degree of this University or any of the degree of any other University accepted by the syndicate as equivalent thereto subject to such conditions as may be prescribed therefore shall be permitted to appear and qualify for the M. Sc COMPUTER SCIENCE degree examination of this University after a course of study of two academic years. |

| Ph.D (Computer Science) | A candidate should obtained a Master Degree(M.Sc. Computer Science/Technology/MCA) with not less than 55% of marks or an equivalent grade. For candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/Differently abled and those who qualified for the Master's degree before 19th September 1991 the minimum eligibility marks shall be 50% in their Master's degree. |
