Hostel Facility

Periyar University has one Men's Hostel and two Ladies' Hostels while the men's hostel (Adhiyaman Men's Hostel) and one of the ladies' hostels (Periyar Maniyammai Women's Hostel) were constructed in 15th February 2007 and the second ladies' hostel (New Women's Hostel) was in July 2019. The Hostels are under the direct control of the University Administration. The Registrar of Periyar University serves as the Warden for both men's and women's hostels, with assistance from two Deputy Wardens for each hostel, as well as hostel staffs.

About 800 students usually reside in University Hostels at a time. The inmates of the hostels include UG, PG, PhD and Post-Doctoral students. The following rules have been made common for men's & women's hostels by the administration and are be amended from time to time.

Admission:

Students are admitted on a first come, first-served basis. Rooms are allocated by the hostel office and cannot be exchanged without prior permission.

Deposit and Room Rent:

The room rent is not refundable even if the inmate decides to vacate the hostel. No students who is or has been a resident of the hostel may claim a refund of such fees. The student will only receive a refund of the hostel caution deposit upon course completion.

Functioning of Mess:

The hostel mess operates based on a dividing system. No students are allowed to stay in the hostel without using the mess facility. Deputy Wardens will guide the student's mess Committee, which will oversee the mess's management. The student's representatives will prepare the mess menu, and it has to be approved by the deputy wardens.

Payment of the Mess Bill:

Monthly mess, establishment and electricity bill amounts will be communicated to the inmates through the hostel notice board. Mess fees must be paid on time as per the schedule set by the authorities.

Timings:

The inmates of the women's hostel must arrive by 6.30 p.m., and the inmates of the men's hostel must arrive by 10.00 p.m. A prior permission letter is to be submitted to the Deputy Warden through proper channel for inmates arriving and leaving late to the hostel. In case of absence/leave, communication through the proper channel should be given to the Deputy Warden.

• Any form of violence, harassment, or discrimination is strictly prohibited. No inmate shall keep any firearms, poisonous things, or intoxicants of any kind in the hostel.
• Inmates will be held accountable for any damages caused to hostel property.
• Inmates are responsible for keeping their rooms and common areas clean and tidy.
• Inmates must vacate the hostel upon the expiration of their stay or completion of their term.
• Violations of hostel rules may result in warnings, fines, or expulsion. The university administration has full power to expel the student violating the hostel rules. The Warden has the right to discontinue hostel facilities for any inmate found guilty in case of misconduct. The hostel management reserves the right to inspect rooms without prior notice.
